The childrenâs room. Victoria and Guy are having a heated conversation. Guy is sitting on his bed, holding a mobile phone. Victoria is pleading with him, voice muted, as if she is afraid of being overheard.
â You said I could borrow it.
â Iâve changed my mind.
â It wonât take a minute.
â Want to call your boyfriend?
â I havenât got a boyfriend.
â Do you want to marry him?
â Who?
â Macy.
â Donât be stupid! Anyway, heâs not my boyfriend.
â So who do you want to call?
â None of your business.
â If you wonât tell me, you canât have the phone.
â All right. I am going to call Macy. But heâs not my boyfriend.
â Why? Because he dumped you?
â He didnât dump me.
â Just because heâs giving you a second chance doesnât mean he didnât dump you. Anyway, if youâre saying he didnât dump you, youâre admitting heâs your boyfriend.
â No, Iâm not.
â If you donât admit heâs your boyfriend, you canât have it.
â Guy! Give it me!
Victoria snatches at the mobile, but Guy withdraws it.
â You give that to me or Iâll tell Dad youâve got it. And where you got it from.
â No, you wonât. And you donât know where I got it from.
â I will. And I do.
â If you tell anyone, youâll be sorry.
â DAD! Guyâs stolen a â
Guy slides the mobile into his pocket. Then, without warning, he jumps off the sofa, knocks Victoria on to her back and traps her under his knees. She cries out; Guy puts his hand over her mouth. Although he is younger than Victoria, he is clearly more physically powerful.
â Shut up. Iâll spit on your face.
A thin line of saliva appears from Guyâs mouth and hangs a few inches from Victoriaâs left cheek. At that moment Dr Seymour appears in the doorway.
â Whatâs going on?
Guy looks up without changing his position.
â She hit me first!
â Get off her.
Dr Seymour, with some effort, drags his son off his daughter.
â Youâre a bully, Guy.
â I told you, she started it. She slapped me just because I said she had a boyfriend.
â I didnât, Dad.
â I know you didnât, sweetheart.
â Shut up. You always take her side.
â You shut up, Guy. And hand over that mobile phone.
Now Guy looks stunned.
â What are you talking about?
â You know what youâre going to do, Guy? Youâre going to do two things. Youâre going to stop lying to me. And youâre going to stop bullying your sister.
â Iâm not lying to you! I havenât got a mobile phone, have I, Vick?
â Dunno. How would I know?
â Is that so?
Dr Seymour is looking pointedly at Guyâs pocket.
â Guy. I know you have a mobile phone. And I know you were bullying Victoria. You canât pull the wool over my eyes any more. And Victoria hasnât told me anything.
â What are you talking about? Thereâs nothing to tell.
â Youâve got half an hour to tell me the truth. If you do,
